Kat Wahamaa is an award winning musical performer/touring artist and song-writer, photographic/ fibre artist and community arts practitioner with a passion for arts and social action. She is currently engaged in a three year Artist in Residency for the Cities of Maple Ridge/ City of Pitt Meadows.
‘My art has always held an element of community engagement as music speaks directly to the soul. Over the last 15 years through music, dance, fibre and photographic art, I have focused on community arts as my area of practice. My goal with the Maple Ridge Artist in Residency is to be an active, engaged member of the community; to connect folks to each other in a meaningful way through arts and the simple joy of creating together, and co-create community arts projects that touch, teach and transform all those engaged in them – including me.
For the Art Studio Tour I will be showing my photographic/digital art, offering a mix of easy hands-on take away fibre art activities for all ages and an opportunity to contribute to an on-site outdoor weaving piece, interspersed with a program of short musical performances.
I will provide information on upcoming community arts projects, ways to get involved and will be seeking input (comment cards) on project ideas from community members. I will have an outdoor gallery with some works from the upcoming Openings Where the Light Gets In exhibit hanging street side on 224th.’
