OUR 2025 ARTISTS
Cindy Johnston
Medium: Painting
Cindy Johnston began her career as an artist in 1995 as a result of a gift from her artist mom. At first, she worked in watercolours, painting the misty landscapes surrounding her in Maple Ridge. When she found the deep, vibrant colours of acrylics and rich textures offered in mixed media, she knew she had found her artistic home. She now creates bold abstracts, haunting figurative images, landscapes, and animal “portraits”. The creative names of her artworks reflect the thought she puts into the background story of each image. Through striking subjects and bold colours, Cindy’s focus is on interpreting moods through images; some are dark and brooding while others are bright and often comical. She wants the viewer to be drawn to and touched by her work. It should evoke strong emotions, offer insights into her creative process, and leave the viewer thinking about the painting from then on.
