Metamorphosis—turning debris into paper art!

Joan Marr is a 92-year-old “queen-ager” who turns pulp, weeds, tea leaves, and flower petals into one-of-a-kind items. She loves to push the boundaries of handmade paper to new horizons. She uses no chemicals in the production of her colourful art: her 3-D sculptures, masks, and textured cards. But she does love adding a little bling to some of her pieces. Adding organic fibres, flax, flowers, and reeds to her papers makes each one unique. This artist has even made paper from a hornets’ nest (minus the hornets). Reusing and repurposing these organic materials is one way she demonstrates her concern for the environment. Joan and her distinctive art are both works in progress.
