Kirk Deutschmann

Medium: Pastel, Coloured Pencil

Kirk Deutschmann discovered art later in life, accidentally finding coloured pencils about 10 years ago, and more recently, pastels. Kirk is a self-taught artist who, in his spare time, enjoys creating realistic portraits of pets and wildlife.  He loves discovering and using different techniques to create the variety of textures found in animals, such as the softness of fur, gloss in the eyes, and wetness of a nose, while creating depth of colour and using rich contrasts.  His favorite paper surfaces to work on are Clairefontaine Pastelmat and Grafix drafting film.  Working from his home basement studio, Kirk’s goal is creating a realistic animal portrait where the soul of the animal is experienced.
